Text For Citation: 01 Item/Group: 001 Hazard: FALLING
Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The Employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that: a) On or about July 1, 2002 and prior to that time, at the "Drop a Rock" climbing wall attraction, employee(s) who performed ascent, repel, and descent operations were exposed potential fall hazards in excess of 20' from failure of equipment and/or failure of operational procedures (including misapplication of the system) due to insufficient training in the proper inspection and use of the control descent system. Among other methods, feasible abatement methods would include development and implementation of operational procedures, including training for each employee in the hazards associated with the work and the appropriate means for utilizing equipment and minimizing exposure to the hazards.
