Text For Citation: 01 Item/Group: 001 Hazard: FALLING
Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to severe contusion/fractures from fall hazards associated with the use of an aerial lift as a hoisting device to pull grounding rods from the ground. Location: 6 Taunton Street, Plainville, MA. An employee was fatally injured when he was thrown from an aerial lift bucket truck while attempting to pull grounding rods from the ground using the boom of the aerial lift. Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable method would be to dig the grounding rods out of the ground with a backhoe.
