Text For Citation: 01 Item/Group: 002 Hazard: LIFTING
Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to falling load hazards: On or about February 8, 2002, the assistant blast operator was exposed to falling load hazards at the monorail load station in the no-bake foundry blast area. The custom-made below the hook lifting devices ("T" bars) on the monorail system were not tested or inspected. AMONG OTHER METHODS, ONE FEASIBLE AND ACCEPTABLE METHOD TO CORRECT THIS HAZARD IS: Design, test, and inspect all lifting devices ("T" bars) in accordance with ANSI Below-the-Hook Lifting Devices, B30.20.1.4 (testing), and B30.20.1.3 (inspection). 29 CFR 1903.19(d)(1) requires certification and documentation that the abatement of the above violation is complete.
