Text For Citation: 01 Item/Group: 001 Hazard: CRUSHING
Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to struck-by/crushed-by hazards: On or about February 8, 2002, the assistant blast operator in the no-bake foundry blast area at the monorail load station was exposed to struck-by/crushed-by hazards, in that, a barrier guard was not provided to prevent the casting cage from falling into the employees work area. AMONG OTHER METHODS, ONE FEASIBLE AND ACCEPTABLE METHOD TO CORRECT THIS HAZARD IS: Install a barrier guard at the load station to prevent casting cages from falling out into the employees' work area in accordance with ANSI B 20.1.5.09.2.3 and ANSI B 20.5.13.1. 29 CFR 1903.19(d)(1) requires certification and documentation that the abatement of the above violation is complete.
