Text For Citation: 01 Item/Group: 001 Hazard: CRUSHING
North Carolina General Statute 95-129(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of North Carolina: The employer did not furnish to each of his employees conditions of employment and a place of employment free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees, in that employees were exposed to crushing hazards: a)site: on or about 5/14/01, the following conditions existed: while dumping wood chips from the dump box of the vehicle, no written procedures were in place nor any safety devices installed to prevent an employee from entering the pinchpoint area between the dump box and the stationary toolbox and being crushed. Among other methods, a feasible and useful abatement method would be to visually ascertain the crush point area to be clear before lowering the dump box.
