Text For Citation: 01 Item/Group: 001 Hazard: CAVE IN
North Carolina General Statute 95-129(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of North Carolina: The employer did not furnish each of his employees conditions of employment and a place of employment free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed being buried by cave in. Ref: US Department of Transforation Federal Highway Administration, Standards and Guides for Street And Highway Construction, Maintenance, Utility, and Incident Management Operations. Part VI Section 6C: a)site - employee installing a water line on the side of the highway were not protected by the Five Parts of a Traffic Control Zone by installing cones and assigning a flagman to control traffic and ensure the safety of the employees. Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable abatement to correct this hazard is to train and monitor work crews to ensure compliance with requirement on a regular basis.r
