Text For Citation: 01 Item/Group: 009 Hazard: FALLING
Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to a slipping/tripping/falling hazard: (a) Facility, 20 Silver Lake Drive, Pittsburgh, PA: As of March 8, 2002, employees are exposed to a slipping/tripping/falling hazard when working on top of bundles of rebar when stacked on flatbed trucks. Employees are exposed to a fall hazard of approximately six to seven feet when loading and unloading bundles of rebar. (b) Facility, 20 Silver Lake Drive, Pittsburgh, PA: As of March 8, 2002 employees are exposed to a slipping/tripping/falling hazard when working on top of bundles of rebar in the stock pile bins. Employees are exposed to a fall hazard up to approximately six feet. Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable means of abating this hazard is to institute a fall protection program and to provide fall protection equipment to employees.
