Text For Citation: 01 Item/Group: 001 Hazard: FALLING

Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to a fall of 15 feet: a)Packing Area: Employees were standing on wood pallets and being lifted by forklift vehicles. Employees were not provided with safety cage or other safe means of being lifted, on or about 04/24/01. Note: Among other,feasible and acceptable abatement method would be to: 1.Provide "safety platform" used in accordance with ANSI B56.1 1975 Part III- Section 513, or equivalent protection. 2.Provide a scaffold or solid construction from which to load and unload merchandise from from second floor.
