Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees performing chalk line operations on asphalt outside the coned construction zone which was adjacent to an active traffic lane. Location: Interstate 95 Eastbound, Exit 32 on ramp, Stratford, CT Employees were applying chalk lines to asphalt on I-95 in Stratford, CT outside the designated construction zone. Among other methods, one feasible abatement method to correct the hazard would be to snap the chalk lines a safe distance from the edge of the construction zone edge adjacent to the active traffic lane based on written procedures.
