Text For Citation: 01 Item/Group: 001 Hazard: LIFTING
Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish to each of his employees employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to being struck by self contained bottle jacks: On or about 4/2/05 at the north side of the Ag Shop, employees were exposed to struck-by hazards due to improper use of three self contained bottle jacks which were being used to straighten a steel support portion of a John Deere 1510C Scraper bed. Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable abatement method to correct this hazardous condition would be to comply with manufacturers' operating instructions and use jacks only for lifting as described in the American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME/ANSI) B30.1 - 1998 Edition. **Abatement documentation required for this item**ed
