Text For Citation: 01 Item/Group: 001 Hazard: LIFTING
Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish to each of his employees employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to: (a) Residential construction site at 2003 Shoreline Drive, Windsor, CO: On August 3, 2001, Brannen Design and Construction, Inc., as the "controlling" employer (general contractor) and as an "exposing" employer for this construction project, did not follow safe wall erection practices and procedures when their employee attempted to lift an approximately 16 foot by 19 foot wood-framed wall with other individuals instead of using acceptable mechanical assistance. Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable abatement method to correct this hazard is to use a crane to lift and place this type of wood-framed wall, instead of utilizing manual lifting. Abatement Note: Abatement certification and documentation are required for this item (See enclosed "Sample Abatement-Certification Letter").
