Text For Citation: 01 Item/Group: 001 Hazard: CRUSHING
Section 6(a) of the Puerto Rico Occupational Safety and Health Act: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to: Seccion 6(a) de la Ley de Seguridad y Salud en el Trabajo de Puerto Rico: El patrono no proveyo empleo y un sitio de empleo libre de riesgos reconocidos que esten causando o que puedan causar muerte o dano fisico a los empleados, por cuanto empleados estaban expuestos a: a. Receive serious injuries due to the absence of a portable emergency stop control when working in the proximity of the crusher and pulverizer (manufactured by Williams Patent Chrusher and Pulverizer Co. Inc. model #60 TF Shredder, serial #14442) which was fed by a conveyor. Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable abatement method to correct this hazard is that at those points where employees are normaly stationed, the conveyor shall be equipped with permanently installed pull cords or similar stop controllers. a. Recibir lesiones serias debido a la ausencia de un control portatil para paradas de emergencia cuando se trabaja en las proximidades del triturador y compactador(fabricado por William Patent Chrusher and Pulverizer Co. Inc. modelo no 60 TF Shredder,serie #14442) el cual era alimentado por un "conveyor". Entre otros metodos, un metodo aceptable y posible para corregir este riesgo es que en todos aquellos puntos donde el empleado normalmente esta estacionado, el conveyor tiene que ser equipado con cables permanentes para halar en caso de emergencia o controles de parada de emergencia similares.
