Text For Citation: 01 Item/Group: 001 Hazard: CRUSHING
Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to the hazard of being crushed between the partially raised bed and the chassis of a dump truck: (a) 518 Heritage Wood Dr. Huntsville, AL. On or about 8/8/01 an employee was performing maintenance (servicing) on the hydraulic system located under the partially raised, unsecured, bed assembly of a Ford two ton dump truck, exposing him to the hazard of being crushed by the falling bed. Among other methods, one feasible method of abatement to correct his hazard is to install a bar to hold the dump bed while performing maintenance and servicing.e
