Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to the hazard of being crushed between the two sections of a manufactured home when the two sections were being pushed together: (a)Spiral Industry, Inc. - Yard Area - On or about October 12, 2000, employee(s) were exposed to the hazard of being crushed between the two sections of a double wide manufactured home when the two sections were being pushed together. Employees did not adhere to company procedures to ensure that no one was between the houses during the joining process. Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable abatement method would be to install an audible alarm which would warn exposed employees that the manufactured home sections are about to be moved; develop and implement written procedures detailing the process to be followed when moving sections of manufactured homes to include a method to ensure that no employee is either inside the home or in the area between the two sections before moving. Employees should also be thoroughly trained in the process and procedures.
