Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to being struck by material: a.On or about October 5, 1999, throughout the facility, the employer used polyvinyl chloride (PVC) pipe when transporting compressed air at 135 to 140 pounds per square inch gauge, exposing employees to the hazard of shattering materials. Among other methods, feasible and acceptable methods to abate this hazard include to use pipes made of acrylonitrite butadiene styrene (ABS), or metal, or ensure that the PVC pipe is completely enclosed in a conduit or casing of sufficient strength to provide protection from external damage and deterioration. ABATEMENT CERTIFICATION IS REQUIRED.TION
