Text For Citation: 01 Item/Group: 001 Hazard: CRUSHING
Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to a crushing hazard. I295 & Sloan Ave., Hamilton, NJ 08619 - While performing a tractor-trailer recovery operation, an employee was exposed to a crushing hazard. The employee was required to crawl between the dual wheels of the tractor to release the fifth wheel in order to disconnect the trailer. On or about 10/29/99. ABATEMENT NOTE: One feasible abatement method would be to secure the tractor and trailer together by using come-alongs while releasing the 5th wheel during recovery operations of vehicles.
