Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employmnent and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to: At the Medina Plant, training of newly assigned employees did not include essential information needed to protect them from serious injuries such as crushing, puncture and amputation while operating equipment including, but not limited to the Gribetz Multi-Needle Quilters. Feasible and acceptable abatement methods would be to develop and implement a standard training program which addresses specific tasks and procedures to be included in the employee's training. Validation of the trainee's knowledge and ability to perform specific tasks should be documented insuring indivisuals have a consistent and thorough understanding of all specific tasks has been achieved.
