Text For Citation: 01 Item/Group: 001 Hazard: HEAT
Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to fire and explosion hazards:: a)Poor maintenance practices resulted in hot hydraulic oil leaks on the OSB press and in the press pit where ignition sources are normally present. Among other feasible and acceptable abatement methods to correct this hazard are: - Repair oil leaks prior to operating the OSB press. - Install leak detection devices designed to shut down the hydraulic oil heating system and the press when leaks occur.
