Text For Citation: 01 Item/Group: 004 Hazard: CRUSHING
Title 21 V.S.A. Chapter 3, subchapter 5, sec 223(a) of the Vermont Occupational Safety and Health Act: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that, the employer failed to insure that all employees were kept clear of loads about to be lifted and of suspended loads. Location: Rutland transit Center Violation; The employer failed to adequately inform employees of the hazards associated with suspended loads and of loads about to be lifted, resulting in life threatening injuries to an employee when a cable failed causing the trevie to fall, crushing the employee. Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable abatement method to correct this hazard would be to inform and train the employees about overhead hazards and to provide alternative ways of operating the trevie levers without being placed under it.er
