Text For Citation: 01 Item/Group: 002A Hazard: FALLING
Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health act of 1970: the employer did not furnish a place of employment, on or about November 15, 1996, and at times prior thereto, which was free from recognized hazards which were likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees, in that Sears, Roebuck and Company did not assess their work site to determine which hazards were present, including but not limited to falls and employees climbing to the top shelf without the aid of a ladder, while performing stocking duties. Among other means, one feasible and acceptable method to correct this hazard is to follow the programs outlined in the companies Safety and Health Manual which is to conduct a full workplace hazard analysis and enforce the use of platform ladders during stocking operations that require employees to work above shoulder level.
