Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to structural steel collapse: a)At the worksite, Phase III Tin Bath, Columns 65, 64, 63, 62, on or about 09- 20-97: Employees were erecting structural steel which was not braced/supported as required by the Varco Pruden Basic Erection Guide for Metal Buildings, American Institute for Steel Construction Code of Standard Practice, and the building drawings for project 3990. Among other methods: One feasible method to reduce this hazard is to: Follow Varco Pruden Basic Erection Guide for Metal Buildings as it relates the installation of temporary supports, purlins, etc., also comply with the American Institute for Steel Construction Code of Standard Practice, and the building drawings for project for 3990.
