Text For Citation: 01 Item/Group: 001 Hazard: CRUSHING
Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to crushing hazards and/or being struck by highway trucks: a)On or before June 12, 1996, in front of the loading dock. Employees who were sweeping the area in front of a loading dock where and while highway trucks were maneuvering to and from the dock were exposed to the hazards of being struck by maneuvering trucks or crushed against the loading dock by backing trucks. ABATEMENT NOTE: Among others, a feasible method to eliminate or materially reduce this hazard is to initiate a procedure which ensures that employees are not in danger areas where and while highway trucks are maneuvering.
