Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to being thrown and/or crushed by the skid steer loader. a) On 10/10/97, Throughout the Establishment The seat bar on the Bobcat, 743 yellow skid steer loader was raised and tied with heavy duty baling wire. The interlock was by-passed, allowing the foot pedals to be operational, while the bar was in the elevated position. AMONG OTHER METHODS, ONE FEASIBLE AND ACCEPTABLE ABATEMENT METHOD TO CORRECT THIS HAZARD IS TO: Ensure that all safety items such as the seat bar and interlocks are fully operational, and follow the manufacturer specifications for safe operation. ABATEMENT VERIFICATION IS NOT REQUIRED.
