Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish to employees employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were the hazard of falling from an elevated work platform. a)On or about 06/25/98 employees in the mixing department were exposed to the hazard of falling from a pallet which was not secured to the forks of the forklift. Among other means, one feasible and acceptable means of abatement would be to secure the platform to the forks, as required by American National Standards Institute, B56.1-l993, Section 7.35.3. b) On or about 06/25/98 employees in the mixing department were elevated over six (6) feet on a wooden pallet suspended on the forks of the forklift truck with no fall protection. Among other means, one feasible and acceptable means of abatement would be to utilize only platforms designed for elevating personnel with forklifts, in accordance with the requirements set forth in ANSI B56.1-1993. PLEASE NOTE: CERTIFICATION AND DOCUMENTATION OF ABATEMENT IS REQUIRED FOR THIS VIOLATION.
