Text For Citation: 01 Item/Group: 001 Hazard: GUARDING
Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to: possible injury or death from the employees having to recover or rescue small craft during periods of high winds and seas when small craft warnings are posted. On or about 11/14/96 employees were exposed to possible injury or death from having to use a jet ski to rescue or recover disabled jet skis during periods of high winds and seas,when small craft warnings are posted. Among the acceptable and feasible means of abatement are: 1.Cease renting jet skis when small craft warnings are posted 2. Provide a boat which is capable of handling the conditions to recover the disabled jet skis 3. Institute a plan where either the Coast Guard or one of the local marine towing services is called to recover the craft.r
