Text For Citation: 01 Item/Group: 001A Hazard: CHEMICAL
Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employmnent and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that: a)During the period from November 21, 1998 to March 12, 1999, inclusive, Gulf Hauling employees working at the International Paper Mobile Mill site were exposed to the hazards of slips, falls, tripping, and/or serious burns/irritation to the body from exposure to waste chemicals generated from the paper process, including alkaline and caustic materials, in that the waste pad area was not kept in a well lit and illuminated condition. Among others, feasible and acceptable abatement methods to correct this hazard include, but are not limited to: 1)Maintaining the waste pad in a well lit and illuminated condition.
