Text For Citation: 01 Item/Group: 001 Hazard: CRUSHING
Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to: Hazards associated with riding the attachment, on or about 09/14/1998, an employee was riding the attachment of the CAT 330L excavator to measure the center of the manholes from the hubs. Employees were exposed to potential crushing and a fall of over six feet. Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable method to control the hazard is to develop and implement written procedures requiring employees to not ride the attachment. The Construction Industry Manufacturers Association's Safety Manual for Hydraulic Excavators states to never allow anyone to ride the attachment or the load.hment
