Text For Citation: 01 Item/Group: 001A Hazard:
29 CFR 1926.20(b)(2): The employer did not initiate and maintain a safety program which provides for frequent and regular inspections of jobsites, materials, and equipment to be made by a competent person. a) Brokers Contracting, Inc., 3920 Tennyson Street, Denver, CO: On or about April 21, 2011, the employer did not ensure that a competent person inspected the worksite to evaluate and determine an appropriate safe method for moving an existing pre-fabricated shed weighing approximately 1200 pounds. As a result, the stability of the shed was lost allowing it to tip over and fall on its side after placing 3 one inch metal bars under the shed for the purpose of rolling it away from the existing building. As a result, an employee was fatality injured after being struck by the falling shed. Abatement note: OSHA defines a "competent person" as one capable of identifying existing and predictable hazards in the surroundings or working conditions which are unsanitary, hazardous, or dangerous to employees, and who has authorization to take prompt corrective measures to eliminate them. Abatement Note: Abatement certification and documentation are required for this item (see enclosed "Certification of Corrective Action Worksheet").
