Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The %% employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to major contusions and fractures from rope failure due to 15 wires broken in one lay of a wire rope used to pull the looper while steel is being run through the galvanized line: a) Sheet and Tin Division 1) Galvanize Line - Top Pass Entry Looper - broken wires in the wire rope created a hazard, observed August 15, 1989. Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable abatement method to correct this hazard is the replacement of the wire rope.
