Text For Citation: 01 Item/Group: 001 Hazard: CRUSHING
Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to: a) Crushing injuries from the movement of the Hot-car locomotive where the Hot-car travels back and forth for full length of the 1000 ft. railroad track approximately every 14 minutes while employees are doing track repair work. Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable method is to provide a watchman which would include the following essentials: 1) Provide a full time watchman with no other duties. 2) Establish a written procedure to be followed and training for all affected employees. 3) Periodically evaluate the program and strictly enforce all of its provisions.
