Text For Citation: 01 Item/Group: 001 Hazard:
OSH ACT of 1970 Section (5)(a)(1): The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees who were exposed to fire and explosion hazards: (a) On January 30, 2024, at or near 3861 East River Road South, in Medora, North Dakota, an employee was exposed to fire and explosion hazards while engaged in hot oil operations, when a faulty propane hose located in the undercarriage separated and the released propane was ignited by the operating fire box. Note: Among other methods, feasible and accepted methods to correct this hazard would be to: 1) Follow the requirements contained within Association of Energy Service Companies: Hot Oil Unit Operations Guidelines which requires the inspection of all system components prior to commencing work; and 2) Ensure that hoses and fittings, susceptible to damage from mud, rock, snow, ice and other road debris flung up from the tires are protected from damage in accordance with NFPA 58 - Liquified Petroleum Gas Code.
