OSH ACT of 1970 Section (5)(a)(1): The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to molten metal explosion hazards during melting operations. On or about May 16, 2023, employees working on the lower-level Alnico melt deck were exposed to molten metal hazards during normal operations including, but not limited to, melting of aluminum charge materials and operating the furnace. Fire and molten metal explosion hazards associated with the Alnico melt deck furnace include the introduction of contaminants such as water, heavy grease, oils, or other volatile substances in liquid or solid form into the furnace or coming in contact with the molten metal. Abatement documentation is required for this item in accordance with the requirements of 29 CFR 1903.19(d).
