29 CFR 1910.132(d)(1): (Hazard assessment and equipment selection.) The employer shall assess the workplace to determine if hazards are present, or are likely to be present, which necessitate the use of personal protective equipment (PPE). a) On or about January 10, 2023, the employer did not verify through written certification that a hazard assessment of the workplace had been conducted such that appropriate PPE was not identified for employees performing work in the machine shop, to include but not limited to the following: 1. Work with rotating parts being machined where protection from flying chips, fragments & sparks was necessary 2. Work when handling machined parts where protection from sharp metal edges was necessary 3. Work with CNC machine high pressure coolant spray where eye & skin protection was necessary 4. Work with heavy steel stock to be machined where protection from objects that could be dropped or may fall onto the feet was necessary
