29 CFR 1910.134(g)(2)(i): Appropriate surveillance shall be maintained of work area conditions and degree of employee exposure or stress. a. As of August 22, 2022, for operators and other employees who processed solid wastes in the Solid Processing Pits at the facility, the employer did not ensure that appropriate surveillance was maintained of the work area conditions and degree of employee exposure or stress in that they did not continuously monitor the atmosphere for hydrogen sulfide exposures. There was a potential for the release of hydrogen sulfide gas during solid waste treatment operations.
