Text For Citation: 01 Item/Group: 001 Hazard:
29 CFR 1910.23(b)(8): The employer did not ensure that ladders are used only for the purposes for which they were designed. 19 Clear Zone Road, Sanford, ME - Employees were using an eight foot step ladder to obtain access to the top of an approximately 12 foot high garbage collection truck. Step ladders are intended to be elevated work platforms only and should not be used to access/egress higher levels. Employees climbed to the top of the eight foot step ladder then transitioned to climbing equipment on the truck to reach the top of the vehicle. The process was done in reverse to get down.
