29 CFR 1910.212(a)(1): One or more methods of machine guarding was not provided to protect the operator and other employees in the machine area from hazards such as those created by point of operation, ingoing nip points, rotating parts, flying chips and sparks: A. Packaging Area: On, or about, December 16, 2021, adequate safeguarding had not been provided on the back side of the Southern Packaging Machine. The rear access doors were routinely left open during production operations and employees were allowed to enter the working space of the machine to retrieve a tub of rejected packages and for cleaning. B. Bar Room: On, or about, March 27, 2022, employees were exposed to in-running nip points in the Bar Maker extruder feed hopper while dumpling material in from the top. The inclined conveyor that was normally used to feed the hopper was out of service for modifications.
