Text For Citation: 01 Item/Group: 003B Hazard:
OSH ACT of 1970 Section (5)(a)(1): The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were potentially exposed to struck-by hazards from overhead loads being carried by the 5-ton Stacker Crane. Feasible and useful methods to correct the hazard include the following. - Provide effective training to operators on safe operation of the cranes to ensure loads are not carried above other employees. - Reassess the Personal Protective Equipment requirements for employees to ensure that potential overhead hazards are addressed sufficiently by engineering and administrative controls that would eliminate the need for hard hats or other head protection.
