Text For Citation: 01 Item/Group: 003 Hazard:
29 CFR 1910.107(e)(6)(iii): A pressure hose and couplings were not inspected at regular intervals appropriate to this service. The hose and couplings were not tested with the hose extended, and using the "in service maximum operating pressures." The hose showed material deteriorations and weakness in its carcass and was not withdrawn from service and repaired or discarded. (a) USS Preble Destroyer: Employees were engaged in a spray painting operation on the starboard outside hull of the vessel on an aerial work platform in the dry dock. The employer used a pressure hose that is not normally used, was shorter in length, and not inspected at regular intervals. The hose ruptured causing paint injection injury to an employee resulting in hospitalization.
