29 CFR 1910.212(a)(1):One or more methods of machine guarding was not provided to protect the operator and other employees in the machine area from hazards such as those created by point of operation, ingoing nip points, rotating parts, flying chips and sparks: a.) On September 16, 2020, the employer did not ensure employees were protected while operating the DNP Calendar Winder. An employee was caught while taping the winder roller while it was rotating, resulting in a hospitalization. b.) On or about September 23, 2020, the employer did not ensure employees were protected while operating the DNP Calendar Winder. Employees are required to line up empty shafts with the chuck, and are exposed to amputation hazards associated with the pinch point created between the shaft and the chuck. c.) On September 1, 2020, the employer did not ensure employees were protected while operating the Kawakami Winder. Employees are required to wrap the final core of the day with foam by using tape, and on September 1, 2020, an employee was injured after being caught in between the foam and the core.
