Text For Citation: 01 Item/Group: 001 Hazard:
Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to a fall hazard: a) Greenhouse #2, House 8, Row 21036, on or about 6/4/2020: Floor hole, 30-inches in diameter x 15-inches deep, was not provided with a cover to prevent employees from stepping into it and falling. An employee accidentally stepped into this uncovered floor hole while moving a cart which resulted in an injured back and knee. Among other feasible and acceptable means of abatement would be to install covers over the open floors holes to comply with the American National Standards Institute, ANSI, Standard A1264.1-2017, Safety Requirements for Workplace Walking/Working Surfaces and Their Access; Workplace Floor, Wall and Roof Openings; Stairs and Guardrail/Handrail Systems.
