Text For Citation: 01 Item/Group: 001 Hazard:
29 CFR 1910.176(b): Secure storage. Storage of material created a hazard. Bags, containers, bundles, etc., stored iWn tiers were not stacked, blocked, interlocked and limited in height so that they are stable and secure against sliding or collapse. On or before 2/18/2020, at Quaker Doors and Windows, located at 504 US Highway 63 South, Freeburg, the employer exposed employees to struck-by hazards when it failed to provide L-Carts equipped with guarding on both sides to adequately secure against sliding or collapse. The most recent instance of this occurred on 2/13/2020 when the employer stacked six approximately 222 pound windows on a L-Cart located in the dock/warehouse area. The windows were not stacked, blocked, interlocked, and limited in height so that they were secure and stable. As a result, when an attempt was made to stabilize five of the windows so that the sixth window could be removed from the stack, the five windows became unstable, striking, and injuring an employee.
