Text For Citation: 01 Item/Group: 001A Hazard:
Section 5(a)(l) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm, including severe burns, to employees in that employees were exposed to fire and explosion hazards due to deficient design and/or implementation of preventive and/or protective measures in its dust collection system and related equipment, such as the following: a) P2 Pellet mill - On or about 12/18/19, the dust collector deflagration venting was not directed to a safe location. The deflagration venting was directed toward an egress route and loading dock area. Abatement Note: Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable abatement method to correct the hazard is to provide deflagration venting in accordance with NFPA 68 (2007) Standard on Explosion Protection by Deflagration Venting. In accordance with NFPA 68, Chapter 6, Section 6.6.1 "the material discharged from an enclosure during deflagration venting shall be directed to a safe location"
