29 CFR 1926.652(a)(1): Each employee in an excavation was not protected from cave-ins by an adequate protective system designed in accordance with 29 CFR 1926.652 paragraph (b) or (c) of this section. a) Near Waterford Blvd, Opelika AL; On or about October 1, 2019 the employer exposed employees to cave-in hazards in that employees were required to work inside of a trench measuring 11 feet deep, with one 2.5 foot wide bench at seven feet; the trench was 100 feet in length and was dug in class "b" soil. The employer had not complied with the standard in that employees were not protected from cave-ins by an adequate protective system and the excavation was sloped at an angle steeper than one and one-half horizontal to one vertical (thirty-four degrees measured to the horizontal).
