29 CFR 1910.138(a): The employer did not select and require employee(s) to use appropriate hand protection when employees' hands were exposed to hazards such as those from skin absorption of harmful substances, severe cuts or lacerations, severe abrasions, punctures, chemical burns, thermal burns, and harmful temperature extremes. On or about July 19, 2019, an employee sustained a right index fingertip amputation while cleaning and sharpening the blade of a Hobart Slicer in the Deli Department. The employer did not select and require employees to wear appropriate hand protection such as, but not limited to, cut resistant gloves to prevent severe cuts, lacerations, or fingertip amputations while machine guarding was not practical or feasible. Abatement documentation is required for this item in accordance with the requirements of 29 CFR 1903.19(d).
