Text For Citation: 01 Item/Group: 001 Hazard:
OSH ACT of 1970 Section (5)(a)(1): The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees. a) Dock area of facility - on or about May 2, 2019, employees were exposed to struck by hazards while driving forklifts inside tractor trailers while methods used to prevent the trailer from moving were not continuously implemented. ABATEMENT NOTE: Feasible and acceptable means of abatement would be to enhance and enforce the employers gladhand lock program for all employees that could be affected, which includes some of the following provisions such as but not limited to: 1) Policy prohibiting the spotter from moving trailers in the dock area until the spotter has effectively verified, that all the employees have been removed from the trailer and surrounding dock and yard areas. 2) Designate only the forklift operator as the only individual permitted to remove the glad hand energy control device and ensure the role is identified in the written program. 3) Ensure that all employees who work in the area where the procedure is carried out are trained on the procedure.
