Text For Citation: 01 Item/Group: 001B Hazard:
29 CFR 1910.30(a)(1): (a) Fall hazards. (1) Before any employee is exposed to a fall hazard, the employer must provide training for each employee who uses personal fall protection systems or who is required to be trained as specified elsewhere in this subpart. Employers must ensure employees are trained in the requirements of this paragraph on or before May 17, 2017. On 24 April 2019, at a worksite located at 1435 S. Villa Park Ave. Villa Park, IL 60181, an employee who was directed by the owner of the company to climb into a tree and trim branches with a powered pole saw was not properly trained on fall hazards and how to minimize them. The employer failed to ensure that the employee who was tasked with working above the ground in a tree had the knowledge and training in personal fall protection systems. This exposed the employee to a fall hazards of over 15 feet to the ground below. Abatement documentation is required for this item in accordance with the requirements of 29 CFR 1903.19(d).
