Text For Citation: 01 Item/Group: 001 Hazard:
29 CFR 1910.212(a)(1): One or more methods of machine guarding shall be provided to protect the operator and other employees in the machine area from hazards such as those created by point of operation, ingoing nip points, rotating parts, flying chips and sparks. Examples of guarding methods are-barrier guards, two-hand tripping devices, electronic safety devices, etc. On or about March 12, 2019, employees were exposed to struck-by hazards, such as flying chips, while operating a Bridgeport Milling Machine. The employer did not ensure that a chip guard was installed to protect operators from flying debris created during the operation. Abatement certification is required of this item in accordance with the requirements of 29 CFR 1903.19(c).
