Text For Citation: 01 Item/Group: 001A Hazard:
29 CFR 1910.212(a)(1): Types of guarding. One or more methods of machine guarding shall be provided to protect the operator and other employees in the machine area from hazards such as those created by point of operation, ingoing nip points, rotating parts, flying chips and sparks. Examples of guarding methods are-barrier guards, two-hand tripping devices, electronic safety devices, etc. The employer is failing to ensure that employees are protected from struck-by and caught-in hazards when operating a food product mixer by not having a bowl guard securely fitted onto the shaft of the mixer. This event was most recently documented at the jobsite located at 514 S. 11th Street, Omaha, Nebraska 68102 on January 24, 2019. Personnel operated a food product mixer without the use of an appropriate bowl guard as required by the standard and outlined in the operator's manual.
