Text For Citation: 01 Item/Group: 002A Hazard:
29 CFR 1926.1053(b)(1): Where portable ladders were used for access to an upper landing surface and the ladder's length allows, the ladder side rails did not extend at least 3 feet (.9 m) above the upper landing surface being accessed: a. On or about January 9, 2019, employees were using a 24-foot Werner extension ladder to access a 2nd story landing improperly, as the ladder did not extend 3 feet above the platform and had a missing rung, exposing employees to a fall hazard. b. On or about January 9, 2019, employees were using a multi-purpose (Little Giant) set up on the 2nd floor balcony to access the 2nd story roof that was not tied-down, exposing employees to a fall hazard. c. On or about January 9, 2019, employees were using a 12-foot section of an extension ladder to access the top of a roof improperly, as the ladder did not extend 3 feet above the eave, exposing employees to a fall hazard. d. On or about January 9, 2019, employees were using an 8-foot a-frame ladder on the 3rd floor balcony to access the 3rd floor roof that did not extend 3 feet above the eave, exposing employees to a fall hazard.
