29 CFR 1910.138(a): The employer did not select and require employee(s) to use appropriate hand protection when employees' hands were exposed to hazards such as those from skin absorption of harmful substances; severe cuts or lacerations; severe abrasion; punctures; chemical burns; thermal burns; and harmful temperature extremes: On or about January 16, 2019, the employer did not require the use of chemical resistant gloves for employees whose hands are exposed to hazards from handling chemicals such as Buffer Solution pH 10, Ethylenediaminetetraacetic acid disodium salt dehydrate pH 4-6, and Potassium hydroxide 13.5. Employees were not using gloves when they should be using butyl rubber gloves or neoprene. Employees work with various chemicals that are located in the chlorinator building while performing various tasks, to include but not limited to the analysis of calcium and magnesium following the brine treatment of the cisterns.
